Research
I completed my PhD at the University of Manchester with Dr Rowan Smith. We utilised high-resolution Arepo magnetohydrodynamic simulations of nearby isolated galaxies to study star formation and magnetism in the interstellar medium. The magnetic field is dynamo-generated, and amplifies over hundreds of megayears. With this model, the correlation between the alignment of the magnetic field and molecular and atomic gas can be investigated, as can the link between atomic and molecular gas. The impact of magnetic fields on the star formation history of the galaxy can also be measured by sink particles, capitalising on the unique abilities of theoretical research. With mutiple models of varying field strength, the specific impact of magnetism in star forming environments can also be interrogated by extracting the molecular cloud populations of the galaxies.
